What is the SS ISO 50001:2011 standard?
The SS ISO 50001:2011 gives organizations the requirements for energy management systems (EnMS). It enables organizations to improve energy performance, including energy efficient use and consumption through the integration of energy efficiency into management practices.
Why you need this?
EnMS can enable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts and energy cost.
The Standard was internationally launched on 17 June 2011 at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG). In addition, on a national level, it has been adopted as a Singapore Standard.
Similar to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 14064 standards, SS ISO 50001:2011 follows the PDCA model. In the planning phase, energy reviews are conducted to establish the baseline, energy performance indicators (EnPIs), objectives, targets and action plans necessary to deliver results in accordance with opportunities to improve energy performance and the organization's energy policy.
Energy management action plans are then implemented, monitored and measured to determine energy performance, followed by actions for the continual improvement of the EnMS. Applicable across all industries, implementation of this standard can result in making better use of existing energy-consuming assets of the organization, evaluating and prioritizing the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies and promotion of energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.
